I’ve come a long way from when I first started vocal lessons with Ms.Wu. As time has passed, it’s knowledgable to note that she has a passion for music which really comes through in her teaching. Ms.Wu has a love for music like no other and it inspires the same in her students. These lessons have taught me the thrill of being confident in my own voice. We started off with the specific goals of improving my pronunciation and listening comprehension. She is a classically trained singer, and that makes a huge difference when studying language sounds. Not only does she have personal experience producing all the vocalizations of both English and Chinese but she can explain the similarities and differences in great detail so we were able to cover the entire set of Chinese phonemes in just a few weeks. Simeng has many years of broad, general education in both the US and China. This is an often overlooked quality in language instructors but the only way to be sure that your instructor is teaching you the correct translation is if they are confident in their ability to express a given thought in both languages. Furthermore, she is able to provide cultural context around language usage so that I can better understand native speaker’s intent.
